Winter and cold have come again. I love winter, with snow and sun and being outdoors. But that is not what this is about.
With winter comes the need of car maintenance. Winter shows even more what is fading about your car. If not treated right it will not start. Starting problems need to be prevented, so it is a smart ting to do to fix some things.
So now I have gotten a new battery some weeks ago, and today I filled cooling fluid, checked oil, filled diesel condense remover on the tank, connected the engine heater, and tomorrow I will let the auto shop put new glow plugs in (glow plugs are used to pre-heat the diesel when starting, and if they do not work properly it wont start and create a lot of exhaust smoke).
It is important to care about the car. I hate starting problems. Is there any worse than when you are going somewhere and get stuck because it just won’t start? That is stress.
Taking good care about the car is also about safety. Just imagine what would happen if it breaks down in the middle of a bad snow storm, it is cold and you get stuck somewhere in nowhere freezing.
Most people think of the car as a warm and cozy place, and do not wear so much warm clothes when driving. Some even skip wearing a jacket. You know – Just going to drive a little…. This could be a great mistake if you are unlucky enough to get an engine failure or have an accident. A good thing having in your car in wintertime is a snow shovel, snow chains, something to put under the tires to get grip if you get stuck in the snow, cables for jump starting your car, a towing rope, a warm sleeping bag, extra warm clothes and warm shoes in case of emergency. All this will prevent you from freezing to death if the luck runs out.
And remember to set your clock to winter time today if your in this zone of the world. :) One hour back (22.00 becomes 21.oo).
Have a nice day
