My biggest loss from asthma – by Annelie Molin

My biggest loss from getting asthma it is not being able to cook without getting sick. I love cooking and everyone need to eat. And the part of being able to cook a nice meal for someone, a friend, loved one a.s.o. and being able ro really enjoy it.

The loss of using perfumed products and strong chemicals, getting sick from tobacco smoke making me unable to stand with smoking friends and such, is nothing compared to the loss of being able to cook without getting ill. It makes it a struggle to make food for myself, making food for friends, and others I love and enjoy their company.

I lost much when I got asthma. In form of freedom to do things.  If I only had been allowed to keep the joy of cooking. That would have been wonderful, it is such a big part of life. I love it so much, and asthma destroy the joy in it and makes it too a struggle.

How unfair isn’t it to get sick from what should make one happy, and what maintain living.

Everyone need to eat. Everyone need the joy with food with friends.

Getting ill from cooking… Where is the fairness in that?

I like canoeing, photographing, friends, movies, food, humor, and going on trips. I dislike rudeness, dishonesty, violence, nastyness, and people not caring for others. I do not drink much, I do not smoke and I do not do drugs. I love friends who are kind to me and stick with me. If you want to give me a gift, the best gift is to stop smoking and stop using fragranced products. Then you give me health and that dear friend, is the best gift a person can get. It is a gift of love. I got asthma and I am hearing disabled.

  1. Can you cook with steam? I have problems cooking but if I cook just basic chicken or vegetables in steam under an exhaust fan, then I can cook. But oil, high temperatures or spicy food is a no no.

    • Hi Miche, Thanks :) Yes I can cook with steam. Actually that is the only way except for using the own for me to cook without problems, without experience asthma problems. Otherwise I have to open the window and put my exhaust fan on the double and walk away from the kitchen when frying for example.

      • Oh, that’s good. Steaming is healthier anyway! If I want something fried, I have to get a friend or my daughter (she’s 17) to cook it somewhere else. This year I bought a Thermomix to cook with. That way I can make many dishes without making fumes in the house. It is sad that you miss out on the cooking like that. I tried cooking outside, but I nearly made a fire because I had to go inside, so now I don’t do that.
