Sod(d) Norwegian – English

Sodd in Norway is Soup

It is regarded a delicassy and is often served at parties.

In England on the other hand Sod (spelled a little different but prenounced the same way is a total different matter.
So your sense of “sod” is on the money. Suffixial “off” marks a general epithet as an insult, as seen in “piss off,” “f-ck off,” “bugger off,” etc., all used in the manner of “please goaway.” Also note that “sod” in this sense is UK usage only. In US English it only refers to topsoil and turf grass.

You want some Sodd? 😂😂😂

Svorsk: samlag – samleie

Family name Gardiner

You who know me know that I like languages and that sometimes it ends up really funny when you translate.

Gardiner

Today I watched a movie, För kärleken (For love), and noticed the name Gardiner roll over the screen.

So what about language and Gardiner?

It probably mean a total different thing where it origins from but in Sweden and Norway Gardiner means Curtains. Yes, what you hang in your window.

I really do not mean any bad about writing this. In the patent industry there are a whole market with experts with knowledge about this telling companies what to name and not to name products to avoid embarrassing name choices.

Rotvær Messy weather?

In Nordland in Norway is a small place called Rotvær.

image

Rotvær can be interpreted Messy Weather or Clutter Weather.

– So it is a messy weather place?

(Word “rot” [root] translate either root or untidy. Word “vær” translate either weather or place.)

It probably got it’s name by a all different reason. But word play is fun. 👍😂😂😂

Pussig Swedish – Norwegian

The word pussig you find in both Swedish and Norwegian and it got all different menings.

pussig in Swedish means “likes to kiss you a lot”, while in Norweigan it means something is strange.

Pussa in Swedish means kiss on the chin when you like someone, and in Norwegian it means drunk.

Puss in Swedish means “kiss on the chin” and in Norwegian is  is like a puddle or to shine something up (puss / pusse).

Swedish – Norwegian fun

Today I was talking to a person I know, he is Norwegian by the way, and we had one of these Swedish – Norwegian language laughs. We sat talking and I said

“- Du er blitt bedre på å ikke legge på luren for tidlig, og avslutter mere skikkelig. ”

This means in translation

“- You have become better at finishing a phone call and hang up in a better way.”

Now this Swedish word “luren” (in English meaning the handset you hold to your ear and speaks in to) that I mixed in by accident and did not really think of if it have a different meaning in Norwegian happens to mean the man’s penis in Norwegian. The guy stared at me wondering, surely thinking “hanging up the penis?” said what it means in Norwegian, and we had quite a laugh.

Toten Norway

Toten in Norway or should I say “Toten Ins Norwegen”? That is Dead in Norway in German. Yes that is right. ;)

Toten is a place in Norway.

In (Ins) Toten among other things you find

toten-trening

Toten Gym – Like a gym for the dead is an issue?

totenegg

Toten Egg – Eggs from this place is not alive.

totentransport

Toten Transport – Dead Transport Huh? I wonder what the Germans think when they see this?

And on top of it the West of Toten got knifes in their weapon.

totenvestre

What Toten really mean in Norwegian I have no clue, but if you read it in German it gets really funny.

Toten is located between Gjøvik, Hamar and Oslo.

(ps. Dear citizens of Toten, this is just for laughs so please do not get offended.)

Gem vs binders – Swedish – Norwegian

Today I stumbled over a Norwegian word “gem”. This gets hilarious in Swedish, since “gem” in Swedish is Norwegian “binders” (English: paperclip).

Norwegian “gem”

image

“gem” in Norwegian means real or fair, willing to participate, or like being in for a game.

Swedish “gem”

In Norwegian a Swedish “gem” is “binders” (english: paperclip).

Imagine a Norwegian talking to a Seed:

Du er gem!
Meaning: You are alright!

And the Swed answers:

Jag är inte et gem!
Meaning: I am not a paperclip!

HA HA HA HA HA :-)

Møka Norwegian – Möka Swedish

I sat today talking with a colluege, and recognized a word he was using. I have heard it before, and I giggle just as much each time.

In Norwegian dialect there is a word

Møka, meaning move snow with a shovel.

We have the same word in Sweden, but it is slang

Möka, meaning to fart (yes the smelly kind)

It is pronounced the same way.

So imagine when a Norwegian sit talking with a Swede

I will just go out to “møka” a bit…

And the Swede hear

I will just go out fart a bit…

Ha ha ha..

Fish lose sense of smell in polluted waters — Environmental Health News

Scientists has discovered that fish living in polluted water loose their sense of smell. Fish uses smell to find a partner, find food, navigate in murky waters and escape enemies becoming food. Back in fresh water they regain their sense of smell. Researchers also found pollution by metal may be cause of low reproduction with fish. http://www.environmentalhealthnews.org/ehs/news/2013/fish-smell

Environmental Inhibition from Allergy and Sensitivities

Making a Internet search on Environmental Inhibition or Impairement / Disability you will find two categories, one talking about the impact from people in your life and inherited behaviour from parents, and the physical Environmental Inhibition from Allergy and Sensitivities.

It is important to know the difference between the two.

Environmental Inhibition from Allergy and Sensitivity has nothing to do with the other.

Environmental Inhibition from Allergy and Sensitivities is a physical disease a person has such as allergy, lung disease, mcs and other similar conditions, that in contact with pollution of the air we all breathe inhibit the person from entering or staying in the area, home, work place, shop, hospital, or other place.

Uniform and religious and political attributes

(Scroll down for English)

Debatten om å bruke hijab og andre religiøse klesplagg til uniform i politiet, og i rettsvesenet foregår.

Det er noe med ordet uniform. Uni-form – Enighet i form – dvs å være like.

In English

The debate over whether to wear the hijab and other religious garments to the uniform of the police, and the judiciary takes place right now in Norway.

There’s something about the word uniform. Uni-form – Agreement in the form – ie to be like. That is what is the meaning of a uniform, and if anyone has other things with their uniform – for example, religious or political symbols – when they are no longer uniform.

The whole meaning of a uniform is that everyone should be just and equitable, and shall submit repsekt.

It should not allow religious symbols or political symbols in the police, military and courts. And I mean no matter what religion or political opinions and expressions, or symbols.

There has been talk that it could be an advantage if a cop is wearing hijab or other Muslim symbol in contact with those of the same faith (also applies to other kinds of faith), but it also provides a form of no equality when other will be excluded from being talked to that because they do not have the same belief or political opinion. If we want to have an open and equal society then we should put all such away at work and otherwise.

I think that all workplaces, both public and private, should be neutral both in respect of all religions and expression of this, and all forms of politics. All this is highly charged symbols and a workplace is a place you must visit every day to get food and a roof over their heads. A job where you have customer contact should be neutral. One attend the work place to do a job, not to make an example of their faith or political standpoint. Working together and meet must fit all, regardless of believes and political opinions. The faith you have or political opinion you have, you can do in your private life.

I am not at all racist and accept that people believe in something. Many believe in different things, but I think that a workplace whether on public or private shall be neutral, and especially the judiciary and the military.

As for religion and politics one can keep on with it on their private spare time.

A workplace should be neutral.

Hotel, motel or what?

Galtsjöns do not know what they are. They advertise with being both Motel, Hotel and Wärdshus. There is a slight differense in standard between a hotel, a motel and a Wärdshus. Gah, anyway they did not stand up to any of those anyway.

Hotel, motel, wärdshus or what?????
