Air poisoning #Tork #AMFI #luftoppfrisker #scentmarketing #airfreshener

Luftforurensning

Air pollution

So I went to the bathroom again (one actually have to), it was yesterday, this time at the mall. I did not spot it at first because it has the same color as the wall, but thought it was detergent or something I smelled. AMFI pollute the air and are making it unfit for asthmatics. I of course got sick from it, and my medication bag was in the car at work when I took the bus here, all I have is a small inhaler. What happens is inhaling the chemicals from the pump makes the lungs inflamed, cramps and tight and I do not get air. I just hope it will not be as bad as last time. I went to the center office and complained. I need to take medicine often in the coming hours to keep your lungs healthy or it will come back and worsen.

I had to inhale asthma medicine in large quantities long afterwards. Luckily this time around it was on the wall where you wash your hands and not inside the toilet stall so I was exposed shorter time than the last, I think therefore I do not have to be sick for three weeks this time. Nevertheless, this I do not need, I do not benefit from being exposed to such, one must be able to go to the toilet and other places without getting sick. Using such devices is unacceptable.

This is Tork’s product. 😠👎

Parfymeallergi – din godlukt skader andre – Elin Wiese Engh – Nyhetsettermiddag NRK

Lytte her:

https://radio.nrk.no/serie/nyhetsettermiddag/NPUB51017416/01-09-2016#t=45m45s

– Does pure will always work?

(Scroll down for English)

Ta astma for eksempel.

Is it always enough with sheer determination?

It is often one hears about people with disabilities who manages the most amazing things on sheer willpower, they do not give up, and conducts. It is inspiring and shows both courage and determination to master. An example of these is Jessica Cox. She has no arms and learned how to fly a airplane.

People who have disabilities and show all they can is a source of inspiration for both the disabled and fully functioning human beings, and they truly deserve it. But the backside of the coin is that those who can not do such things are in a way a little looked down upon or felt sorry for. Yes not all and not always, but if you do not show the attitude when you are usually seen as negative. But is this true?

Take for example asthma. Many struggle with pollution in the air from perfume, scented candles and ordinary candles, incense, fragrance and strong smelling hairspray, body spray, fragrance deodorants, so called air-freshener whether it is scent blocks, manual or equipment that pumps out scent on timers etc., tobacco, fragrance detergents, fabric softeners, cleaning agents, etc. In a society where doing things on sheer will, overcoming issues and success doing so is seen as heroic, makes also a climate where if you say it does not go then you become somewhat looked down upon or seen as negative.

Asthma is recognized as a handicap by the WHO, EFA, and LDO, when it is a physical illness that creates obstacles and hinders in everyday life. Many people who have disabilities can overcome their handicap on sheer will, but does this go with asthma?

I very much admire ladies like Jessica Cox and everyone else with her who manage to overcome their handicap and do things anyway, just like everyone else does. At the same time I get a little sad and conscious of my own handicap as I can not be blamed for it and that I can not rule over it.

A person who has asthma (or other sensitivities that responds to the same conditions) that go into a room where it is used fragrance marketing, s.c. air-freshener, perfume on people and clothing, fragrance hair sprays, body sprays, fragrance deodorants, scented candles, incense, strong detergents and perfumed cleaners, etc. may enter and reside in a room where all this is the sheer determination? No, it is not possible, not even with medication, at least not those of this group who have sensitivity to these substances in the air. Some are not even helped by medicine. Yes some have more sensitivity than others, others have  less, but common is that one can not get in a room where it is impure air. To remain in this environment of pure will like other disabled people can overcome their handicap is not possible for many people with asthma and allergies, it does not matter how much you want to, it doesn’t work.

It’s not about will, I can stand outside and would like be with, it’s not about positivity or negativity, I could go and certainly I can go because my legs works and it is entirely possible to get in, but if I do then I become so sick of air pollution in the room that I have to get out right away. It has nothing to do with negativity, nor have it anything to do with medicine to take because I have all the medicine for my asthma I need, it’s just not enough. I shows that it actually is not enough to have the will, that it is not enough to want to and just do, because I want to a lot but there is no help in it, the lungs do not care the least what I want, the lungs they do what they want regardless of what I want or would like to  participate. The medicine only helps to keep me healthy as long as I avoid the substances that is not air.

Therefore, it is important that you help so that the air is clean and free from these substances, because then I and all others with the same disability can be everywhere!

I and You only need clean air.

ps This is probably true for all other allergies as well, I guess that after what other allergy sufferers have told me, so do not meet those who are allergic with “- Take your medicine!” or “- I do as I like!” because then you are to make people hurt. And such behavior is seen as very negative by those who are allergic.

Møgelskade gav parfymebesvær -Mold damage cause fragrance sensitivity – Lotta Fäldt Magnusson – corren.se

(Scroll down for English)

Fragrance sensitive after mold injury

Lotta Fäldt Magnusson tells corren.se about how she became perfume sensitive after living in a black mold infested apartment. After three years in an apartment with black mold subfloor withstand she no longer perfume and has also received many other allergic symptoms. She says that her quality of life is severely diminished.

“There was black mold in Stångåstaden apartment where she lived for three years, which has made her sick. Already during the first year of residence, she began to feel ill, she could not breathe and had strong allergic reactions. She became sick and eventually lost her job because of prolonged sick leave. When doing a repair in the apartment, it was sub-floor found black mold. She moved from the apartment. Lotta Fäldt Magnusson has several medical reports from the Allergy Centre  about her deteriorating health and disease symptoms.

– The vocal cords are damaged forever, and my voice fails me. I have no sensation in the nose. Previously, I have never been allergic to anything, but now I can not withstand anything. If a person who has used the perfume comes near, for example, at a supermarket, I have to stop shopping and go away from there. Not to mention how hard it can be to wash in a common laundry room where many people use fabric softener, says Lotta Fäldt Magnusson.
– I have to take medication for life. It was not my fault that I got sick. ” 11 March 2016 Corren.se

She is now suing the landlord in Linköpng for pain and suffering, permanent damage to her health, lost income and quality of life. Personally I hope that she is successful in court. One get damage if getting ill at work so why not if you get ill from your home? You go girl!

Astma suger – Asthma sucks

(Scroll down for English)

Astma suger

Asthma sucks

Asthma sucks, not only it makes it hard to breathe when it strikes, it makes a barrier to other people due to allergens and irritants they use, it makes a hindering to enter premises due to allergens and irritants used in the surroundings, it makes it hard to find a dear due to allergens and irritants people use, and when one get a airway infection it gets even worse.

This time I was unfortunate to get bronchitis and bronchiolitis caused by a virus infection at the same time and of course it made my asthma go bunkers as well, so yes, asthma sucks.

Both bronchitis, bronchiolitis and asthma is located in the bronchi of the lungs and this time it hit me hard. I am so thankful for medicines and I am working on getting well so I can go back to work as soon as possible.

Sjuk av parfyme – Annika Dørum – ringblad.no

(Scroll down for English)

“Gaver, blomster, duftlys, parfymerte produkter.

Innsauset i parfyme

Men oser lang vei.

Mangler opplysning

For mange.

Du kan gi dårlige dager. Eller gode dager. Et nytt dårlig år. Eller et nytt godt år.” Annika Dørum 31. desember 2015

I get sick from perfume

I get sick from perfume says Annika Dørum in Ringerikes Blad on 31 December 2015.

Article reprinted here with Annika Dørum’s permission.

Gifts, flowers, scented candles, scented products. Direct perfume or indirectly. Clothing and other products, from shops, or second homes, drowned in perfume.

Not everyone reacts to perfume or sense the smell of it, the sense of smell gets numb when one lives in it. But you might be the next. I was one of them, suddenly, zero tolerance for perfume. And more. Insanely sick of it. Acute.

Perfume free

It’s getting some Christmases ago I began to wish me one thing for Christmas:

That everyone would use fragrance-free detergents and softeners for clothes. Mostly else one can choose not to bring or to take on if one should visit or see some who can not tolerate it, but with perfumed detergent and fabric softener in clothes it is hopeless.

For my part, it means I’m sick all the time, around the clock. Because of your perfume. Yes, yours. Although I did not spot you.

from all

The perfume is brought back here to me, every single day. From you. From all of you out there. From school, work, buses, cars, shops, others homes. It requires enormous effort to get rid of, ventilate, washing, showering, showering again. Scrub, wash clothes, throw things in the garbage, put banknotes (which has been around and is stinking from detergents and softeners, hand soap, lotions, etc.) in airtight bags, deliver it to the bank, take out the “new” in the ATM.

And there is the fuelwood, which I do not tolerate anymore. Has a first become environmentally injured then there is no mercy. So it’s not just so easy to just to air the perfume.

When burning wood which then seeps into my home providing new acute breathing problems. Talk about being trapped. And being tortured. Thank God for mild winters, power and heat pumps.

I try to be patient, that they may not understand everything right away, that they do not think about everything that’s perfume in, etc., and that it takes time to change habits. It has taken time here too. And it has taken time to understand everything.

Drowned in perfume

Schools and kindergartens are filled in perfume from detergent and fabric softener, from clothes to children, which is washed by their parents, who do not understand or will not care. The air is thick of perfume.

The clothes of the children is worse than bad, they fill the room with fragrance, it pulls in everything, all the other children’s clothing, hair and body, my kids which is fragrance-free, and takes it home. Every day. Every afternoon.

We are waiting and waiting, trying to keep out, repeat and repeat.

The silence returned, and indifference is the worst.

Many do not think they wear so much perfume. But oozes from far way. Is not aware of everything that’s perfume. Perfume is perfume, whether it is in detergent, softener, deodorant, soaps, lotions, hair styling, dishwash liquid or powder / tablets, markers etc etc. Perfume Free is perfume-free, it’s just as good and does its job just as good or better. Of course there are inferior products, but there are as it does it with everything.

I lived not quite perfume free before, but detergents and softeners for clothes has at least been fragrance free. Enough sense I had. Lotions was mostly fragranced, and soaps and stuff were mild. I reacted slightly to fragranced products before as well, but not to the extent and in the same manner. Before the explosion.

“Mild” is a very misleading word. And advertising makes it sound safe and sound and “Approved”. The same with “natural”. Many do not think about natural perfumes, like flowers and essential oils, it is as much perfume, and as bad.

missing information

I wish someone informed better about this.

I know now. And I know how many people suffer. I no longer have any choice. You have a choice.

If not for me, then do it for all the others. As you make sick. That being ostracized from society. And do it at least for the kids, there are plenty of those who neither tolerate perfume. That being sick by what you use. Or who’s going to be. Do it for your own sake, while you still have a choice.

You can choose perfume. Or you can choose perfume free. You can make it worse. Or better. For many.

You can give bad days. Or good days. A new bad year. Or another good year. “Annika Dørum 31 December 2015

According to archive records of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) one of the most famous people (and one of the most creepy) allegedly suffered from asthma.

Norwegian Heart and Lung Association LHL and Hitler

A campaign against asthma was tried to be started by The Norwegian Heart and Lung Association LHL, they wanted to put focus on teddy bears and toys that could be dangerous to kids having asthma. They wanted to use teddy bears looking like Hitler, the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and former North Korea dictator Kim Jong-Il to make people aware of the danger.

“While copywriter Bendik Romstad added: ‘By focusing on children’s bedrooms we want to stop the problem of asthma and allergies before it even starts to develop.” Daily Mail

Luckily someone noticed the shameful act:

“Members of the Norwegian Jewish society, Det Mosaiske Trossamfund, said they were concerned that a Hitler teddy might soften the mass murderer’s image among the young.” Daily Mail

The campaign was banned and I am happy to see that. How could they ever think that was a good idea presenting mass murderers to kids as teddy bears?

Yes, asthma can kill many a year, but using mass murderers as a way of displaying that is just tasteless and inappropriate, I would even say idiotic.

Those mass murderers really do not deserve the attention, and the softening image it would give. Kids love their teddy bears and we do not want the kids to love mass murderers.

“Wartime, Adolf Hitler suggested, “was the best time for the elimination of the incurably ill.” The Holocaust

OCTOBER 1939
HITLER AUTHORIZES KILLING OF THE IMPAIRED
“Adolf Hitler authorizes the beginning of the “euthanasia” program—the systematic killing of those Germans whom the Nazis deem “unworthy of life.” The order is backdated to the beginning of the war (September 1, 1939). At first, doctors and staff in hospitals are encouraged to neglect patients. Thus, patients die of starvation and diseases. Later, groups of “consultants” visit hospitals and decide who will die. Those patients are sent to various “euthanasia” killing centers in Greater Germany and killed by lethal injection or in gas chambers. ” The Holocaust

“Despite public protests in 1941, the Nazi leadership continued this program in secret throughout the war. About 200,000 handicapped people were murdered between 1940 and 1945.” The Holocaust

How could you ever think this was a good idea LHL? Right now I am ashamed of you.

Parfyme begrenser Martin Kahnbergs hverdag

Perfume limits Martin Kahnberg’s daily life

I collect testimonies from people who are sensitive to perfume and being sick from it so you can learn how it is.

“Martin Kahn Berg can not go to dance or cinema because of the odor hypersensitivity. Now start fragrance free week to get us to leave scent at home.

It is the Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association, which wants to show the need to take account of those perfume restricts lives, those who are affected by chemical intolerance and asthma.

– If Dad had shaved on the ground floor then I started to sneeze in my room upstairs, it was when I was 7-8 years, says Martin Kahnberg from Falkenberg in Sweden.

He gets a tightness in the chest and become so tired that he do not have the energy to stand upright. – I’m never out at the pub or dance halls because I know that there are very many people using perfume. I do not go to the movies either, although I want to go.

It took a long time before Martin realized that several had problems with the same as him. But SHR, sensory hyperreactivity, is quite common. According to a research team at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, is up to half a million Swedes affected, and most are women. Wherefore now the Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association calls for a fragrance week to raise awareness.

For Martin there are no treatments. He has tested medications for 20 years, but nothing has helped. He hopes that more people can think of what they spray each morning. – Think about how much you really need to feel that you feel comfortable. For usually is sufficient very little, says Martin Kahn Berg.”

I would say, drop perfume at all, then you will make so many people happy and healthier, and we can all participate everywhere. Use perfume restrict very many people’s everyday lives, and how would you react if you could not go to school, work, dance, cinema, concert or theater because others fashion mania with perfume?

Fragrance Free Week 44 2015 in Scandinavia – Hanna Nielsen – Expressen.se

Hanna (now 17) tells her story You find more stories like this in Testimonials section.

Screen shot Faximilie, read the whole story here (Swedish).
Testimonial-HannaNilsenSweden

In Scandinavia the Asthma and Allergy Associations has joined together starting the Fragrance Free Week in hope to make people see the health issues they create when they use fragrance products.

Knupp!

Hanna (now 17) gets sick from your perfume

“Every third Swedish are hypersensitive to fragrance. Hanna Nielsen, 17, reacts so strongly that she has been unable to go to school. – It feels like the air stops in my throat. I can not breathe, she says.

Every third person in Sweden is in any way sensitive to fragrance, according to a new research report that TV4 refers to. Asthma and Allergy Association in Sweden Research Department joins report, together with researchers at Sahlgrenska Hospital in Sweden.

Hanna Nielsen, 17, of Danderyd, Sweden, suffer from asthma and is severely allergic to perfumes, a combination that gives serious symptoms. It is enough that someone being close to her has perfume on themselves for her to react strongly.

– I get problems breathing. It feels like the air remains in the throat and do not reach the lungs and I get dizzy, tired, and can be difficult to make contact with, says Hanna Nielsen.

Hanna Nielsen takes medication for her asthma, but for the scent hypersensitivity are not medicines. Therefore, for example, her class have their own classrooms. But school is great and there are many students who use perfume and deodorant. Spray Deodorant is the worst there is, she says.

– I’ve had a lot of problems in school. I have to go home many days, but now it works better because I have a locker in a secluded place, and no one in my class have perfume on, says Hanna Nielsen.

She can not do things that perhaps are obvious for the other 17-year olds. – I avoid going to a party, and rarely go to the cinema. But I’ve learned to live with it and not thinking so much of it otherwise. Instead I meet friends at home with me or with someone else. I usually bike to school, and are usually just in my neighborhood. I travel by bus and subway sometimes, but if someone has perfume on them I have to move, says Hanna Nielsen.

Then graduated from high wants Hanna Nielsen working on cracking the riddle and find a cure.

– I want to be a doctor when I’m graduating. Be asthma and allergy doctor and research in this field, she says. ” Hanna Nielsen

Thanks to Hanna Nielsen for telling her story and to Expressen for publishing it. Well done!

Fragrance Free Week 44 in Scandinavia 2015 – Maud Ström – sverigesradio.se

As you know I collect personal stories both direct and from articles in Testimonials. Maud Ström a former teacher talks about fragrance and health issues.

Photo Faximilie, click to listen in Swedish:

parfymfriaveckan2015-maudstrom

Maud Ström tells her story in Swedish Radio

Right now in progress the perfume-free week in Scandinavia which is a collaboration between asthma and allergy associations in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway. Unfortunately, there is little to show for activity from the Norwegian Asthma and Allergy Association NAAF in common arrangement, but Asthma and Allergy Association in Sweden makes the more of it.

In this article tells Maud Ström who is a former teacher how it is to be allergic and sensitive to perfume, and calls all to curb the use of perfume. Be fragrance free!

“Right now, the first fragrance free week. It is the Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association wishing to inform on how to take into account how the fragrances and chemicals causes problems in people’s everyday lives.

Just over six percent of the adult population meets the criteria for a diagnosis called hyperreactivity or SHR. For the first time now held a perfumed week that aims to inform and get people to take greater account of those who are hypersensitive to smells.

Maud Ström 61, from Kalmar in Sweden has SHR and have lived with it since the 70s. She worked as a teacher, but had to quit because of all the smells in classrooms. There is no cure or medical treatment have for those affected. For her it has made that take up all their time and that she avoids public places.

– Can you train a week to be fragrance free so it is very much bonus with it, and maybe it can establish a good habit, she says to P4 Kalmar Sweden.

There are as many as a third of the adult population who say reacts to smells and chemicals. According to a report Asthma and Allegy Association Sweden has developed together with Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Maud Power believe that everyone will now think about how many scented products they have on a normal day, and especially (but not exclusively) to think about how children are affected by chemicals in scented products.

– Since I have a background in the world of school, I am very concerned that there are no figures showing how our children have been affected by this. I am also concerned when I see new parents with strollers, and it just oozes fabric softener, detergent, and a mix of products.

“More and more get it like me, and this I do not want for anyone.” ” Maud Ström

Thank you so much Maud Ström for standing up in public and speak out!

En Ung Asmatikers bønn

image

Innlegg i svenske Metro avis oktober 2015.

Da har alle like muligheter at ta buss.

Segregation by air pollution ‪#‎tryggluft‬ ‪#‎astmaallergi‬ ‪#‎astma‬ ‪#‎helse‬ ‪#‎parfyme‬‪#‎røyking‬

In English

In my thoughts right now:
It doesn’t matter how nice a person is, that my lungs doesn’t care about at all, it is what you spread around you in the air that decide if it is possible to be social with you.

Be smoke free and fragrance free or I need a 3-4 meter distance to you, and if it is many of you wearing and using it it is not possible at all to be around you.

You see it is not that I am not social, it is your smoking and fragrance products that force me to avoid you.

Like a fish without water #asthma #astma – Reisha

Something simple like breathing

“”Something simple like breathing is a hard thing for people living with asthma. So if your goal is ‘today I want to breathe,’ that is a big feat because even walking down the stairs, the subways in New York, the pollen, smog, everything gets in the way of breathing. I heard this quote before that said ‘a life as an asthmatic is like a fish with no water’ and it’s very, very true.” — Reisha, Asthma”

Hyper allergic and isolated from the rest of the world – Marie Mellum – ostlendingen.no

(Scroll down for English)

Hypersensitive and isolated

“Marie Mellum from Elverum is not at work, can not stop by the store and shop or stay with her daughter to school closure. She is allergic to food, odors and smells. The social and leisure happy girl has a life-long allergy. Towards animals, pollen , grass, flowers, fish, fruits, berries, nuts, vegetables, garlic, mice, cooking fumes and perfumes. But she has handled it, and held off what she does not tolerate.

Late last summer she was at the cafe in Leiret. Quite unknowingly licked her in a drop garlic dressing. Throut swelled up, and she was about to suffocate. She was sent directly to the emergency room at the hospital and saved.

At the emergency room, they read through my journals, and summed up. Since October, I have been  at the ER 30 times, says Marie.

– How do you avoid hospitalization?

– It helps to stay at home in the apartment. It helps to not go on Kremmertorget or shopping centers, for which there are odors in the air. People gathering are not good. People use perfumes, they eat garlic and I get sick, says Marie.

– How do you perceive it?

– It starts to tingle in my tongue. Then I put an adrenaline injection. I always go with three syringes at me.

– How is it to live like this?

– Fully Awful . Being isolated is the worst. I am so social. And I can not go to work or go and shop my own food. I am unwillingly made incompetent and disabled by it. I can not go on summer endings with my daughter, is also hurt, says Marie Mellum.

She takes from the morning of heavy medication, refills possibly during the day if it becomes too much allergens. Unfortunately medicines do not make strong enough protection. ”

Stop using fragrance in public transport – Jenny Larsson Sweden – expressen.se

(Scroll down for English)

Stop wearing perfume in public transport

Jenny Larson (31) is one of many who have breathing problems in public transportation because of people use so much perfume. And in summer it is already so dense air that when people use perfume it just becomes worse. Now she asks everyone to reduce the use of perfumes when they use public transport.

Many have longed for summer heat and sun, but for many it brings big problems. Jenny Larsson from Stockholm is one of them. People who smell perfume on narrow buses, trains and subways make sure she has difficulty breathing, becomes hoarse, wheesing and coughing and feel sick.

– In summer, the air is already so sultry and poor, so it gets a lot worse with perfume as well, says Jenny.

Yesterday Jenny hat to switch unit on the subway three times but still could not escape the fragrance. Now she asks people to not wear perfume and scented products in public transport.

– I do not think people are particularly aware of the problem, it needs more attention, she says.

Princess Märtha Louise of Norway sensitive to fragrance – aftonbladet.se

(Scroll down for English)

Hun sier hun bruker aldri parfyme.

Princess Märtha Louise of Norway is highly sensitive against perfume

As a child discovered Princess Martha Louise that she was ill when she came in contact with perfumes. In an article in Aftonbladet.se she tells of how she was nauseous when she smelled on her mother’s perfume Chanel no. 5. In the life she lived as a public person, it was she who should take the initiative to contact the public meetings and parties, sensitivity meant that she was shy and withdrawn, she was ashamed to be different.

To be subjected to perfume on others has been a challenge all her life, and still is she says.

She tried for years to pretend that she was “normal” and struggled with getting sick from perfumes, to pretend that she was normal meant exposing herself and endure perfumes and thus become sick and had to pretend that she was healthy.

When she became an adult she got a diagnosis and she’s better because she knows that she is not weird. She says she never uses perfume, Princess Märta Louise is perfume free.

Internet discussion on fragrance

Here I add comments on fragrance online to show there are not few. From time to time comments surfe up and I aim to qoute them. This will be updated over time.

image

Bjarne Olsen says “I think fragrance should be forbidden. Many of the kids in child care are not able to say no when something gives them discomfort. At the bus, the train, the tube, one suffocate from fragrance.  Not to mention the cashier workers chewing gum.”

image

Ms. Marianne says:
“I want a ban against hairspray, chewing gum and fragrance. In this moment I am sitting on the bus and a lady is spraying her hair in hairspray, and the boy behind me must have bathed in his whole perfume bottle… and a ban would be a blessing. …”

image

“… What about banning fragrance and let it be obligated to shower… ”

image

“What about over use of fragrance?”

image

“I agree with Bjarne Olsen who says

‘Solveig R G So it is ok for you that people get difficulty breathing because you want to use the fragrance you like. About making remarks, it is you who talk to much. ‘

I am one of those who get breathing problems from fragrance people use, it goes also for hairspray,  bodyspray, aftershave and so on. It is so easy to judge others when you have not walked a mile in their shoes. Try suffocating on your own lungs because of fragrance Solveig R G and let’s see if you get it later.”

image

image

Bjarne says: “Solveig R So it is great for you that others get breathing problems and asthma attacks just because you want to use the perfume you whant. About making remarks on things, it is you being such a blabber mouth.”

image

Mrs Alena Jula says: “Oh yes, it would be wonderful having a fragrance ban in the public room. Damn how people stink from fragrance, and fragrance products like fabric softener, washing agents, deodorants, shampoo, lotion, it is no longer possible to avoid the chemical stench. Have people not heard there is fragrance free alternatives? ”

Open letter to Norwegian Food Safety Authority

Food safety, air safety, delivery and cleaning

Today when I woke up and had my breakfast I remembered a thing that happened when I went shopping last summer, that in the next made me remember when I again was subjected to such an event just like this one. I have asthma and get breathing issues from chemicals as very many others.  That time at Christmas time I went  shopping potatoes at Kiwi and had a bad experience getting an asthma attack from a floor cleaning machine spreading its fumes around the store. The store stank from heavy chemicals and my asthma attack was acute from the content of these fumes. They were cleaning in opening hours and the food was not covered. Continue reading

To take the bus is like russian roulette – Kicki Djärv – vk.se

(Scroll down for English)

When the health do not tolerate what is in the air

“Bus travel is a gamble, Kiki Bold must always be prepared to get off. Theatre is futile and before each water aerobics session she keeps fingers crossed that no overdosed hairspray. Kiki has asthma and allergy and perfume makes her sick. We’ll meet at home in Kickis apartment in Ålidhem and I really have thought me this morning. The most cans and bottles I have in my bathroom contains perfumes of any kind; shampoo, soap, lotion, deodorant and hair spray. I try to make myself as “fragrance free” as possible, but it does not really. For Kiki reacts to rinse agent that remain in my shirt. Although it affects breathing, I know that it will pass. The difficulty is that it is built on. It may be fine for a while, but becomes the several doses I become sick in the end. I do not understand why there has to be perfume in just about everything. Detergent for example, I can not even go into the laundry room and my husband have to run three empty machines to remove all detergent and fabric softener residue. I can ride the bus, but stepping it on something that has a lot of perfume on themselves, I have to get off. Bio runs decently if we sit in the back of the chairs where there is little distance to the next line, but the theater is not to my great sorrow. I have tried many times. For some reason, “spraying” the people a little extra when they should be at the theater. I can not even stand in the foyer. I can not breathe.” vk.se

Very many are sick from your perfume use, not only from what you spray on you or put on your face and armpits, but also of the products you use that contain perfume. Show respect to those who are struggling, use perfume free products.

Scents limits Bittans life – Bittan Lagerman – mvt.se

Fragrances limit Bittan’s life

“Scent is often associated with something positive. What you smell good” and so on. For Bittan Lagerman this word now  got another, more negative connotation.

It has crept in over several years, says Motala woman who gets sick of scent from perfumes and perfumed hygiene products, detergents and fabric softeners.

I get terribly hoarse and could barely talk. And I get a tightness in the chest so that it becomes hard to breathe.

Bittan sought help from a health center in the spring. When she said she suspected that her complaints had to do with scent she did not get much sympathy I started to do research myself online. And so I took notes on when I become poor and what I did when I was there.

Eventually she come to the ear nose throat clinic in Linköping and on to the Allergy Centre and where an investigation has begun.  They think I may have SHR says Bittan.

SHR stands for sensory hyperreactivity, ie, respiratory symptoms triggered by chemicals or fragrances.

Bittan had to change her life. Continue reading

Internet discussion on fragrance and use

Today I had an interesting conversation with a perfumer. We can call her just Kari, I will not tell her whole name. It made me start a new thread here on my blog. I even gave it a own menu and tag. It is likely I will add more of this later on.

This conversation show some of the attitudes to us who have a problem with fragrance use. I answered her in my own way. Continue reading

I feel lucky, and symptom free

A improved life

Since some time ago I can finally feel happiness, I feel well, feel free to have a good day, being almost symptom free, and the best thing of all is I have had a good day for months. I have gone from having a PEF 250 (that is half lung ability to Breathe normally) in 2006 -2007 to almost having no symptoms at all toady in 2014. It have been  7 years of struggle finding out what Works, adjusting medicines, Learning what to avoid and adjusting my life to my asthma. The later is actually the sad part, having to skip doing stuff I used to be able to do.

So what have I done to make a better life for myself?

  1.  Cleared the home, my car and my camping trailer for Products containing fragrance and color
  2. Thrown out all fabric carpets.
  3. I bought a sofa I can dust.
  4. A clean kind of minimlalistic style at home.
  5. Avoid all situations where People are smoking and wearing perfume, and where using fragrance Products.
  6. Changed work Place and gotten my work Place adjusted to me.
  7. Adjusting my medicines and even got stronger medicines.

I work full time, I am  not sick or on sick leave more than anyone else – actually not much at all, and all of this together make my day so much better. Of course I have my problems to deal With in life like anyone else from time to time, but when it comes to my Health regarding asthma I have a much better life. And what was really important to make this possible was that my work Place is cleaned fragrance free. It made a hugh difference. Also I work in a area where there are not so many Bling customers. They are most of the Down to Earth People not bathing in fragrance and such before they leave home. Got to love them!

If there is a sad thing in all this, it would be the limitation it have to put on myself to keep it like this. I have to stay away from surroundings where fragrance is. It can put a limitation on whom to visit, where to go and somtimes where to travel.

Important to know is the biggest myth about asthma to know. Many believe that medicine fix all problems and one can do whatever one want. Asthma medicine do not mean you can take medicine and do whatever you want regardless. You have to stay away from what make you sick and take your medicine.

But I try to do what I can do

I do travel, I do visit People (if the environment allows it), I do work, I can do a lot of things only not things involving contact with inhaling fragrance products. I am well as long as the air is good, but it only take the pollution to get symptomes again. Sick I will be forever, all my life, that will never change. But in a non polluted environment I can have a good life.

So much more I could do if there were less of those Products in the world.  Then I could do everything!

Fresh air without fragrance pollution. I love it!

Sensitive to fragrance – Ailo Spjellok – Barnastma.se

Scent sensitive – Hyperreactive

Ailo’s story

Research suggests thatone-third of us feel any kind of discomfort due to strong scents. If you are an adult, you can change seats on the bus if you’re sitting next to someone with a strong scent on, but what does a child exposed to what can give an allergic reaction do?

Ailo is ten years and received the diagnosis of non- allergic asthma when he was just under two years. Something that he reacts strongly to the scents; it can be about flowers, smoke, or fragranced products. It works fine at school so far, says mom Anneli, well aware that children ten years old are not yet any large consumers of scented products, but that it’ll be harder to come. The school has taken the issue seriously. It has been informed of Ailos sensitivity to smells and everyone takes this into account. There is another boy in the class having allergies, and this in turn helps to discussing the issue about allergies more and get a better understanding of those who are afflicted. Sometimes it can happen that Ailo get exposed to scented Products at school. One such opportunity that can happen is related to gymnastics lessons. It may have been someone from the upper classes who have been wearing something strong-smelling in the locker room. But it is clear that even Ailo want to make themselves beautiful. Above all it is cool hairstyles that apply. Now we have found a kind of hair wax without fragrance that works well. Previously tested Ailo a hairspray that did not work at all. The scent becomes very concentrated in a product that you spray on them. Some time ago there was a house that was on fire and the smoke was blowing straight towards Ailos and Anneli’s home. Though it was a kilometer away got Ailo a strong asthma reaction. Smoke seems to be something that Ailo react strongly against. We were with a relative and a man there had a motorcycle that the guys thought was cool. When he started it and gassed in the yard got Ailo again an asthma attack sensing of exhaust smoke. With proper medication cope Ailo still pretty good. It is clear that in cold periods may be necessary to increase the dose of medication something. I’m glad that so many shows take into account Ailos asthma and sensitivity to scents, concludes the mother.

And again I can only agree With this kids story, it is like that and I wish all would take this in account and stop wearing perfume and fragranced Products. Did you know there are about 300 million People having asthma in theh world? If you stop using fragrance Products you will ease the life of many. And really, this is just what it is like. Thank you Anneli Spjellok and Ailo for sharing Your story.

Sensitive to fragrance – Angelica Holmberg – Barnastma.se

Scent sensitive – Hyperreactive

Angelica’s story

Research suggests thatone-third of us feel any kind of discomfort due to strong scents. If you are an adult, you can change seats on the bus if you’re sitting next to someone with a strong scent on, but what does a child exposed to what can give an allergic reaction do?

Angelica was diagnosed with asthma as early as age two, but probably had it a lot longer than that. She has had effort asthma and reacted to animals. Scent sensitive, she has become only recently.

If you know a girl in high school age, so we know it’s often makeup and perfumes that apply. There are special series just for teenage girls, marketed aggressively towards the younger audience. Fragrances from Victoria’s Secret is on many of the younger girls’ wish list and teen idol Justin Bieber has already managed to launch three different perfume series.

Angelica is thirteen years old (2014) and going to high school and of course so are the girls even in her class interested in perfumes. But if Angelica is subjected to strong perfume smells, she gets hard to breathe and have to medicate. Or medicate, yes, she have to medicate all the time to keep their asthma under control, but a perfume can make sure she gets a severe attack that, at worst, ending with an ambulance ride to the hospital emergency room, telling her mother Jenny Holmberg.

We have informed the school about Angelica’s fragrance sensitization and asthma, and some have those responsible at the school listened and acted. It has banned the use of perfumes, but this has to do with strong forces. The marketing of perfumes is massive and what teenage girl does not want to smell good? – I’ve been to school and had with me material from the Asthma and Allergy Association, and to show how it works with asthma and fragrance intolerance. received testing to breathe through a straw and they all understands that it is not easy, says Jenny.

It usually works better in the middle of the semester when you ‘ve had time to inform of perfume ban. At the end of the semester and at the beginning of a new semester , it seems sometimes as if you ‘ve forgotten what was said about allergies. It needed just a student who is wearing perfume or have used any product that has been heavily perfumed. If any student has had on perfume so you speak with the student, it does not help that as we talk with the parents. Some additional levers have not been taken to. I heard about another school where there was a smell hypersensitive pupil who had become sprauyed with perfume as punishment for the school had sent home a student with perfume on it, says Jenny.

One can still say that the school is trying to help Angelica in many ways, they ‘ve looked over the school environment and ensured that the ventilation works well. There is also a plan for what to do if Angelica gets sick at school. Despite this, she medicate every day to be able to be in school, sometimes the medicines does not help and she must go home, sometimes we go and inhale at the health center, says Jenny.”

And really, this is just what it is like. Thank  you Jenny Homberg and Angelica for sharing Your story.

Is the air for everyone?

Norway “According to the Norwegian public reports,” NOU 2005: 8 of equality and accessibility. Legal protection against discrimination on grounds of disability.
